Why are Goldendoodle in such high demand?!?

“If you want a friend…”

So goes the quip from the lips of none other than Harry Truman: “If you want a friend (in Washington D.C.) GET A DOG!

At Priscillas Perfect Puppies, we like, no, we love that down home wisdom. All of us, especially in these trying times are in need of a little TLC. Thirty years of experience in the United States have proven the capacity of Goldendoodles to be a good friend and a long lasting one at that. Let’s look at some of the reasons they have gained this reputation.

For many with children, the most obvious trait is that they are family friendly. When I was training Bosco, a poodle and our superior sire, he went up to every single human he saw and wanted to make their acquaintance. He has shared that quality to the tune of 175 puppies and every single one of them has his natural goodness.

Fun-loving has to come next. They want little Billy to hug them, walk them and play with them. Then it is little Susie’s turn to show them all her favorite hiding places. When I was training Jupiter, an F1b, and Ramona an F1, they had the spunk of Bosco and the charm of Meadow, the Golden. Jupiter was hands down the activities director; Ramona would lie in the grass (or on the ice!) calm and collected and here comes Jupiter to run circles around her and nudge her until she was on for the chase. Then they would rest, play with me, and before you can say “Goldendoodle!” they are back at it again, Jupiter and Ramona taking turns chasing the other. Who needs an entertainment center?!?

Now comes the real fun: TRAINING! Goldendoodles are a delight to train. They are quick students and with their pedigree, can learn multiple commands which is attractive to first time owners. And because they are so lovable you give them exactly what they need. As Michele Welton says in her wonderful book, “Respect Training for Puppies,” True love means providing our pup with:

  • a structured life filled with predictable patterns and routines…

  • consistent positive and negative consequences…

  • calm, confident leadership, so the puppy recognizes that you’re in charge and looks trustingly to you for guidance and direction.

We offer a training package for one to three months before they go home. Contact us for details. And then come visit Priscillas Perfect Puppies in Sherman, Maine for hands on viewing of our puppies, called “exceptional” by one of our new owner’s vet.
